If the cruising life is about anything, it is certainly about living in the moment and enjoying life in full technicolor. But, it is also about the countless memories that cruising far and wide bring you. Frankly, I can remember days and details from many years of cruising far more clearly and in much richer colors than I can whenever we did last week ashore.
Nothing generates memories more than the holidays spent with cruising friends in far off place and foreign lands. Or, at sea for that matter. We celebrate Christmas but this phenomenon stems from any holiday.
We’ve celebrated the holiday aboard our boat in Sea Island, Georgia, South Island, New Zealand, Phuket, Thailand, Larnaca, Cyprus, and Palma, Mallorca – there after a beautiful Christmas eve at the 12th century Gothic cathedral that towers over the bay.
So, now as we sit around the table as a family for holiday feasts as we always do, we often reflect on those Christmases past and the funny things that happened and the cruising friends we were with. The memories add a lovely context to what the holidays mean to us.
I am sure many of you are either making holiday memories right now in ports all around the world or, like us are sharing memories of holidays past that still are as fresh and bright as they were in real life.
Happy holidays and here’s to the magic of the cruising life.
