The winner this week is regular Mindbender contributor Bob Pickett who emailed: “The northern lights (Aurora Borealis) are caused by collisions between fast moving particles from the sun and gases in the earth’s atmosphere, primarily oxygen and nitrogen. These charged particles are released during solar storms and travel through space, eventually interacting with the Earth’s magnetic field.”
