Before reading on, please take a moment to fill out this week’s survey so we can share your knowledge and experiences with the Cruising Compass family. Thanks.
Do you have a primary fuel filter and water separator for your engine?
Many thanks to everyone who took the time to reply to last week’s survey on prop walk in reverse. 90% of those who replied do experienced prop walk and of those who don’t 88% have multihulls while 12% have boat’s with twin rudders. 66% say that prop walk definitely affects maneuvering and docking in reverse. The most common technique for managing prop walk is to gain stern-way and then put the engine in neutral. Other said they angle the boat to a make use of the natural prop walk as they back into a slip. Others said they “back and fill”. And, several said using the bow thruster helps correct for prop walk in reverse.
