Does your boat have an emergency tiller and have you ever used it?
Many thanks to everyone who took the time to reply to last week’s survey on drinking alcohol while underway or on passage. A whopping 63% say they do not drink or serve alcohol while underway. 22% say they sometimes do, while 15% say they regularly have drinks while on passage. For those who do drink or serve alcohol, 44% say they have wine with dinner, 36% say they have sundowners and 20% say only on special occasions. For those whio do not use alcohol at sea, the primary reasons were safety, sober judgement, alertness and the ability to sleep well between watches.
