Many thanks to everyone who sent in answers to our last question on rules of the road for vessels on a collision course. We used the phrase “right of way” to indicate the “strand on vessel” and this caused several to comment. The clearest reply is from regular contributor Tim Cook who emailed: “The short answer is NEITHER. The boat that has another approaching on its Starboard side is a “Give Way” vessel (at night you would see its RED navigation light) and the vessel that has another approaching on its Port Side is a “Stand On” vessel, but neither has “Right of Way””
