160 Years of Hurricanes

Ten years ago this month, Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. It was one of four major storms to make landfall in the US that year, and 2005 remains among the worst Atlantic hurricane seasons on record, causing as many as 4,000 deaths across the Atlantic Basin and more than $100 billion in damages. Since then it’s been relatively quiet on the eastern front— the longest US hurricane drought on record, according to climate scientists. Read More
