Float Plan Saves Lives

Four sailors aboard the 34-foot SV Chuckahui Kai were rescued approximately 74-miles south of Oahu, HI. The crew set off from Oahu to Maui in order to sell the sailboat. Their electronics failed blowing them off course overnight and while they had a compass, the conditions blew them further south. The sailors had filed a float plan with a friend who notitified authorities when the vessel was overdue. The Coast Guard deployed a cutter, helicopter and Hercules airplane to aid in searching. The Hercules found the boat when the sailors waved their flashlights at the plane. Read More
