(stuff.co.nz) – In late February a sailor notified Maritime NZ that his yacht, Tribe was taking on water and in danger of sinking. After the call there was no more communication from the vessel and two rescue helicopters, a Coastguard vessel and HMNZS Te Kaha were deployed. In the meantime the skipper was able to sail his boat north several hours towards calmer waters, of which the rescue crews were unaware.
