Congratulations to Harvey DeWitt, Winnetka, IL who correctly answered last week’s Mindbender. “You use rations like 1:3 and 1:5 in a lot of boating application, like mixing epoxy and martinis as you said, but the ratios in the question are most likely for the ratio of anchor rode length to the depth of the water. A 5:1 ratio would be five feet of anchor rode for every foot of depth. With a rope to chain rode, in normal weather, I like to go with up to 7:1 and with an all chain rode, I like 5:1.”
