(New York Daily News) – The Atlanta, a 172-foot schooner-barge was being towed along Lake Superior when it was caught in a storm on May 4, 1891. It was being towed by a steamer when its tow line snapped and the crew made it on to a liferaft only to have the raft capsize on approach to land. Two of seven crew members survived.
