(globalnews.ca) – Casper Venter along with two crew were delivering a sailboat from Malaysia to the Caribbean when off the coast of Madagascar the vessel sprang a leak. Unable to keep up with the water pouring in, they abandoned ship to a liferaft. Able to call the Canadian Coast Guard, it turned out the closest ship to them was a Russian oil tanker 150 nautical miles away.
