(iflscience.com) – September 10 an underwater volcano erupted in the Central Tonga Islands and just hours after an island emerged, created by lava that was cooled by the ocean waters and solidified.
By September 20 the island grew to 6 acres with a 33 foot elevation. Islands formed this way don’t always tend to stick around long, scientists will be keeping their eye on this one. Read more
