The Adaptability of Killer Whales

(thebrighterside.news) – Killer whales (orcas) have been in the news for the past few years due to the number of sailboats off the coast of Portugal having run-ins with the whales, including the sinking of a sailboat earlier this month. Researchers have been documenting activities of the whales which appear to showcase their adapability and intelligence. In 2019 they observed a pod of orcas hunting the Earth’s largest animal, the blue whale. They have also observed the whales kidnapping baby pilot whales. Scientists note that social learning plays a large role in the orcas’s behavior which might account for their new hunting methods. Read more.
