Cannes, France– Groupe Beneteau, the world’s largest builder of recreational craft from 18 to 80 feet, announced on Tuesday that the Excess line of cruising catamarans was introducing the all-new Excess 13. The new 13 follows in the wake of the 11, 14 and 15 that have proven popular and successful.
While it may seem an unusual business move for a company that already owns the Lagoon brand, a market leader in cruising and charter cats, to introduce a competitive brand in Excess, the move has performed just as Beneteau’s leaders had anticipated: the design, styling and value built into the Excess line has attracted a new type of catamaran owner who are young, outdoor enthusiasts who love to sport and adventure on the water.
The 13 was designed by the Marc Lombard design team, who picked up the design reins from VPLP and took that great DNA and refined it into a dynamic second-generation.
Eric Level, a Lombard design group naval architect, noted:
“The project was simple yet ambitious: to create a catamaran that would evolve and be balanced, reliable and offer good sensations, all combined with the comfort and interior volume that have made Excess such a success.
The form of the hulls, the weight, the composite structure, the interior layout, the ergonomics, the efficiency of the sail plan… Everything on this new Excess is designed around the pleasure of easy sailing and comfortable living on board.”
Employing the “less is more philosophy” the Excess team has kept the new design simple, practical and light to reduce weight and enhance both sailing qualities and value.
The new 13 is sure to be a serious new contender in the performance cruising segment of the market. Young adventurers will be sure to notice,
