In this “sharing economy” several tech entrepreneurs have decided that sharing ownership of a cruising boat, instead of owning outright, might be.an excellent way for cut costs and fit their cruising lives into otherwise busy schedules.
Now, there are three apps for that, Nautic Ed, WeeShare and Nautical Monkey. The concept is a hybrid of social media apps, and the established sailboat sharing company SailTime. The apps act as a way for sailors –from beginner to expert—to find eachother and establish new friendships.
These then provide a way for friends to get together to form a syndicate or partnership and to jointly buy a cruising boat with costs, scheduling, maintence and other responsibilities shared.
Boat partnerships are not always as smooth as it might sound so having a formal framework and protocols s a way to keep everyone happy, sailing and enjoying fractional cruising.
