We have been following the line of performance cruisers being introduced by Rapido Trimarans and the Triac Composites yard in Viet Nam for two years
The launch of the newest model, the 53XS –for Extra Space – puts a high-performance tri out there for an owner who needed three, comfortable double cabins and a large raised saloon with great views.
The answer Rapido and design team Morrelli & Melvin came up with was to take the concepts developed for the 40, 50 and 60 and expand upon them. The new 53 has the same style hull from the waterline down and the same narrow amas.
The boat also has the same carbon C-foil dagger boards and all carbon hull and deck composite construction. Plus, it has a massive carbon sailing rig. All of these Rapido elements contribute to the boat’s exceptional sailing performance.
But above the water line, they have created as large chine in the main hull that seems to double the internal volume. On top of this expanded hull shape, they have created a raised saloon with large windows all around.
Inside, a large double cabin has been fitted into the main saloon area along with the big L-shaped dinette, the nav station and the full galley. A second large double cabin and head fit neatly into the forward third of the main hull and aft, behind the cockpit, a small cabin has a fairly narrow double berth and head.
The 53XS was conceived for an owner who already had purchased a NEEL trimaran, but he was looking for better sailing performance. The new boat fits his needs perfectly.
