If we own our boats long enough and spend a lot of time aboard sailing and cruising, then most of us will make changes and improvements that help make the boat sail better, improve boat handling and improve the safety of the captain and crew.
John Cotton has been fiddling with his vintage Albin Ballad sloop for 30 years and with an engineer’s eye for all things mechanical and practical he has transformed the little sloop into a vessel that is ready for anything.
Since Cotton sails in the higher latitudes of Scandinavia and most often solo, he is keenly away of the need to stay on the boat and to set up safety lines, jacklines and lifelines in such a way that he avoids falling overboard and if he does fall, he won’t do so over the now solid stainless steel tubing life lines.
