Many thanks to everyone who took the time to fill out last week’s survey on hurricane season strategies in the tropics. Of those who answered, 42% have left their boats in the Caribbean, Bahamas and Mexico for hurricane season. In the Caribbean, the most popular areas in order are Trinidad, Graneda, Antigua, the BVI and Puerto Rico. In the Bahamas, the Abacos is the favored area. In Mexico, readers chose marinas in Guaymus, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Puerto Penasco. Farther afeild, readers have hunkered down up the Rio Dulce, in Panama and Curacao. Readers rated their choices at 4.5 stars out of five. For advice, readers insisted that choosing the right marina or boat yard is key, and make sure both the boat yard or marina and your own insurance is up to date and covers tropical storm damage during hurricane season.
