Lagoon Launches Mighty Mite Family Cruiser

By George Day · On September 9, 2025

The Lagoon 380 was one of the most popular cruising cats ever built. For several years the company tried to end the build run but dealers kept taking orders so more cats had to be built.

But time eventually caught up with the 380 and now its replacement is making a debut at the Cannes Festival of Yachting this week. The new design pushes the edges of the design envelope in all directions to create a 38-footer that has the room of many a 42-footer.

The hull design was created by the noted firm VPLP to minimize wetted surface and maximize interior volume above the waterline.  This narrow profile in the water, In combination with the ample sail area flown from the nearly 60-foot tall mast, will make the 38 very slippery and quick in a wide range of conditions

The volume above the waterlines means that the master suite can have a full-size double and the two guest cabins can have equally spacious accommodations.

Modern cruising families have embraced the indoor-outdoor lifestyle and seek to live their life of the water being close to nature and the sea around them.  The cockpit has a dining table for alfresco meals and with the saloon doors open the table virtually joins the dining table in the saloon. Eight can easily dine with both table set.

For outdoor living, there are large lounging and sunning areas on the flybridge and on the foredeck. Plus the trampolines between the forward hulls provide a seeming acre of living space. And, the stern platforms have been made longer and roomier for boarding, swimming and playing with water toys.

Lagoon has always been a leader in the catamaran world and with the new 38 they are once again introducing an entry level cruising cat that may well take the market by storm.
