Thanks to all who completed our survey last week on man-overboard drills. Of the many readers who answered, 83% have run man-overboard drills aboard their boats; of those 91% performed the drill by retrieving a fender or floating cushion ,while 9% practiced with a swimmer in the water. The preferred maneuvers to rescue a person overboard in order are: 1.Quick Stop, 2. drop sails and motor back, 3. figure of eight, and, 4. reach off and reach back.
The. most popular MOB gear kept handy in the cockpit are in order: 1. Life Sling, 2. chartplotter MOB button, 3. seat cushion, 4. throwable quoit, 5, VHF MOB button, and 6. MOM.
