UPDATE: Maine to Marion to Bermuda Rally (M2M2B) Announces Dates, More

By Administrator · On November 20, 2014

The Marion-Bermuda Cruising Yacht Race, Inc. and event host the Harraseeket Yacht Club announce a cruising yacht rally from Maine toM2M2B Marion in advance of the 2015 Marion-Bermuda race. Called the M2M2B, the rally will be an enjoyable and convenient way for Maine-based yacht skippers to sail from Maine to Marion, MA as they stage their boats for the 2015 Marion-Bermuda race.

The rally, sponsored by The Hinckley Company, Points East Magazine, and Brooklin Boat Yard, will begin with a welcome reception and dinner on Sunday June 14, 2015 at the Harraseeket Yacht Club in South Freeport, Maine on the shores of Casco Bay. Maine’s most beloved humorist, Tim Sample, will provide entertainment for the evening.

Yachts will depart South Freeport on Monday June 15 and will passage overnight to the Cape Cod Canal and on to Marion, MA. Yachts participating in the M2M2B will receive special recognition at the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion, MA at the Marion-Bermuda Race welcome reception on June 18. A trophy will be awarded to the first yacht to complete the rally course on corrected time. Whether competitors choose to participate in the Marion-Bermuda race or not, it is a great way to get their boat to Buzzards Bay or points south.

“The 2015 M2M2B is a new event that will excite and attract Maine-based sailors interested in the Marion-Bermuda Race,” says David Patton, Chairman of the Trustees of the Marion-Bermuda Race. “It will be a fun and social way to move their boats to Marion for the start of the 2015 race to beautiful Bermuda.”

David Kent, incoming Commodore of the Harraseeket Yacht Club, says, “We couldn’t be more proud to host the eastern end of what will be a great event. We look forward to laughing along with Tim Sample.” He adds, “The Marion-Bermuda Race is a nationally-recognized Corinthian ocean race, and the M2M2B rally will increase the number of great Maine-based yachts racing to Bermuda in 2015. Watch out – one of our boats might win the thing!”

The M2M2B is organized by the Marion-Bermuda Cruising Yacht Race, Inc. and hosted by the Harraseeket Yacht Club. The Marion-Bermuda Race is among the most prestigious ocean races for sailing yachts. It is a Corinthian event, meaning each entry is sailed by its owner and none of the crew can be paid to participate. The Marion-Bermuda Race is the only ocean race that still awards a trophy for the fastest passage on corrected time by a celestially-navigated yacht.

The Marion-Bermuda race is co-sponsored by the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club in Hamilton, Bermuda, the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion, MA and the Blue Water Sailing Club in the oceans between.
