Sunsail, in cooperation with the American Sailing Association, agreed to give away a weeklong charter for four in the Caribbean.

The purpose of the giveaway, which is valued at $5,200, is to support the mission of Hands Across the Sea, a non-profit that seeks to raise the literacy level of children in the Caribbean.

Those who would like to win the private charter, which will cruise the British Virgin Islands, can enter the free sweepstakes any day in October by watching a one-minute video about Hands Across the Sea at on the ASA’s website. Entrants will also be asked to make a tax-deductible charitable donation.

“Despite the West Indies being home to many exotic tourist destinations, local economies typically lack the resources to adequately support education,” ASA executive director Charlie Nobles said in a statement. “The Caribbean is a gift to sailors and the sailing industry, so we are proud to partner with Sunsail to support Hands Across the Sea’s goal of improving literacy levels in the Caribbean, where economic conditions make children’s books virtually unaffordable for both families and schools.”

Hands Across the Sea celebrated its five-year anniversary Sept. 29. The group works directly with school principals, teachers, learning-support advisers, community leaders, local non-governmental organizations and U.S. Peace Corps volunteers to deliver new, written and illustrated books to Caribbean schools.

The winner of the Sunsail charter will be drawn in November.
